Characters: Chapters 1-5

Mrs. Frisby
Mrs. Frisby, the protagonist, is “...the head of a family of field mice...”(pg. 3) that “...through luck and hard work [was] able to keep her family... well fed.”(pg. 4). She sets out on a journey to Mr. Ages house to find a cure for sick little Timothy as “...she worried about Timothy and hoped that Mr. Ages... would help him.”(pg. 13). On her way back from Mr. Ages house she discovers a crow caught on a fence, but despite wanting to hurry home quickly “...she could not leave the foolish crow to be killed...”(pg. 24) so she decides to save the crow. When hiding she pops out in front of a sleeping Dragon and “...she scolded herself for being so careless.”(pg. 36).

Timothy
Timothy is the second youngest of Mrs. Frisby's family of  field mice, he is “...the smartest and the most thoughtful of the chidren...”(pg. 10) and is inflicted with pneumonia.

         Teresa  
Teresa is “...the oldest...”(pg. 7) of Mrs. Frisby's family of field mice.

         Martin
Martin is the second oldest in Mrs. Frisby's family and is “...the biggest, a strong quick mouse...”(pg. 7).

        Cynthia
Cynthia is the youngest of Mrs. Frisby's family of field mice and is “...a little light headed.”(pg. 8).

Dragon the Cat
Dragon is “ ...[an] enormous...”(pg. 21) cat that stalks the grounds of Mr. Fitzgibbon's farm.

     Mr. Ages
Mr. Ages is an old “...white mouse who live[s] across the farm...”(pg. 12) from Mrs. Frisby who brews medicine for the sick.

     Jeremy the Crow
Jeremy the crow is a “...very young...”(pg. 23) black crow who is saved by Mrs. Frisby when he is caught in a fence, Jeremy tells Mrs. Frisby that he owes her a favour after she saves him.

    Farmer Fitzgibbon
Farmer Fitzgibbon is the farmer of a farm and a “...vegetable garden...”(pg. 3) and has two sons.

       Paul Fitzgibbon
Paul Fitzgibbon is the oldest son of farmer Fitzgibbon “...at fifteen...”(pg. 34).

      Billy Fitzgibbon
Billy Fitzgibbon is the youngest son of Farmer Fitzgibbon “...at twelve...”(pg. 34).

    Old Shrew Woman
The Old Shrew Women is a shrew that Mrs. Frisby meets when she is out walking and while talking she makes a “...remark [that was] illogical.”(pg. 32).


Setting

In Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of of Nimh by Robert C. O'Brien, Mrs. Frisby, “...the head of a family of field mice...”(pg. 3) struggles to keep her family well when her youngest son is struck by illness during the cold month of February in farmer Fitzgibbon's farm.
